Mercedes-Benz Develops Cobalt-Free LNMO Battery to Deliver 30% Greater EV Range
Mercedes-Benz is advancing lithium nickel manganese oxide (LNMO) battery chemistry that eliminates costly cobalt while outperforming conventional lithium iron phosphate packs. The automaker claims the experimental formulation can boost electric vehicle driving range by up to 30% compared to standard LFP cells. While promising for reducing supply chain vulnerabilities and lowering cell costs, a concrete timeline for commercial production has not yet been set.
