Volkswagen Limits EV Charging to 80% Across Multiple Models Over Battery Fire Risk

Volkswagen Group is rolling out an over-the-air software update to cap maximum battery charging at 80% on select electric vehicles following concerns over potential battery fires. The restriction impacts roughly 85,000 vehicles globally across the ID.3, ID.4, ID.7, ID. Buzz, Cupra Born, and Audi Q4 e-tron lines built between 2022 and 2025. The preventative measure comes as the automaker initiates inspections to replace faulty battery cells from an unnamed supplier.
