Mercedes Rebuffs Range-Extended EVs, Sticking with Plug-In Hybrids
Mercedes-Benz has signaled it has no plans to join the growing industry push toward extended-range electric vehicles, arguing its existing plug-in hybrids already meet daily zero-emission needs. The luxury brand contends that current PHEVs offer plenty of all-electric range without requiring redundant powertrain packaging. As a result, the automaker will keep its focus directed at advancing pure battery-electric architectures alongside conventional plug-in setups.
