Toyota Pitches EU on 'VEEF' Category for ICE Cars Using Renewable Fuels, Seeking EV-Like Incentives
Toyota is lobbying the European Union to establish a new vehicle classification, dubbed 'VEEF' (Vehicles running Exclusively on Eligible Fuels), for conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars powered solely by renewable fuels. The automaker argues these vehicles should receive the same regulatory incentives as EVs, citing their zero-carbon tailpipe emissions and potential for rapid decarbonization of Europe's existing 300 million ICE fleet. This proposal aligns with Toyota's long-standing strategy to advocate for diverse powertrain solutions beyond pure battery electric vehicles.
