Canada Needs 19 Times More EV Chargers by 2040, With Home Units Leading Demand
A new report from the Canadian Climate Institute estimates Canada will need roughly 19 times its current EV charging infrastructure by 2040 to keep pace with vehicle electrification. While fast-charging networks are crucial for rural corridors and travel, researchers emphasize that the overwhelming majority of future ports will be installed at single-family and multi-unit residential buildings. To avoid bottlenecks, the report recommends EV-ready building codes, targeted funding for under-served regions, and managed charging systems to protect the electric grid.
