Tesla Evaluated Several Paint-Free Methods for Cybercab Before Choosing Molded-In-Color Panels

Tesla explored alternative exterior finishing methods for its upcoming Cybercab, including film wrapping and in-mold lamination, before settling on color-infused plastic panels. Skipping a conventional paint shop reduces capital expenditures and speeds up production of the purpose-built autonomous vehicle. The scratch-resistant molded panels are also designed to withstand high-utilization fleet wear while keeping maintenance costs down.
