California has launched the "MyFirstEV" rebate program, offering a $3,500 point-of-sale discount for first-time EV buyers starting this summer. While designed to encourage EV adoption, its unique structure—which mandates a dollar-for-dollar match from automakers headquartered in California—means that only a limited number of Tesla models qualify, effectively favoring other in-state manufacturers like Rivian and Lucid.
